Hey Folks,
Lately I have been getting a lot of inquiries into having events in areas outside of downtown and the beach, specifically in La Jolla, Del Mar, La Mesa & Clairemont. I think this is great, I don't think anywhere is too far, having said that, here is what I am finding it takes to have successfull events and why I haven't done more events outside of downtown and the beaches so far... 1. Good knowledge of what is hot (or not) in a particular area 2. To consistenly host events that part of town ... different geographies, as you might expect different followings and friends. 3. A great host :) So for example if I wanted to get a good scene going in La Jolla, I would be reading online to figure out what looks interesting and fun specifically in La Jolla. I would then start hosting weekly events in La Jolla and based on what is successful or not successful I would do repeat events. Over the course of probably a month or so, events in La Jolla will start to gather a following from the group who turn up consistently. From there we slowly start to get a great group going in that part of town and slowly you get to see how rewarding it is to watch people make new friends and connections. So, why am I telling you all this? Well, as you can imagine this all takes a lot of time and energy and since I am only one person I need your help. If anybody on the group would like to get involved and help organize events with me I would really love to hear from you. Especially if you would like to help with events towards La Jolla, Del Mar, La Mesa or Clairemont! After reading all this you might think, "why the hell would I want to take that on?"... I touched on it slightly above but running events can be incredibly rewarding. In the past 8 weeks since starting this group, it's been nothing but a privelidge to run these events. I can't even start to describe how it feels to not only meet the people I have had the fortune to meet, but also to watch them make friends and to see all the smiling faces thanks to the hard work. The most rewarding part was seeing members of the group out downtown outside of the group in their own right... People who are now friends who would never have met otherwise ... Roman, Marc, Kelly... You know who you are :) One of our members even landed a bartending job in the gaslamp out of connections that would have never happened if it wasn't for these events. OK, enough of the hard sell :) If you want to get involved, you know how. Have a great time over the holidays, I have a feeling it's going to be a great new year :! Steve p.s. If you're not busy wednesday, don't forget we will be out helping Ryan have a great birthday... Ryans Big Bull Riding Birthday Bash |
